FAQ's

Peak fire season in Southern California begins in May and runs until October. According to the Cal Fire Incident website, California experienced over 8000 fires in 2024, burning nearly 1.5 million acres and destroying over 1000 structures.

The ability to store extra water for firefighting is a critical tool for assisting firefighters in getting fires under control and the extra time needed for families and neighbors to get to safety.

Galvanized water storage tanks that are strategically placed in forests, wildlands, and rural areas are effective in providing water to fight fires.

  • California law requires that residences have access to a water supply that can be used in the event of a fire. For rural operations and residences that depend on well water, installing water storage tanks provides easy access for firefighters. Galvanized water storage tanks provide water for residential and agricultural needs as well as fire suppression.
  • Water stored in galvanized water storage tanks located in Inland Empire communities, national and state parks are used by the US Forest Service and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) to help fight wildfires throughout Los Angeles County, nearby communities, open land, and forests.
  • Galvanized water storage tanks are effective for providing a reliable gravity-fed supply of water when the power to the well’s pump is out.
  • Unlike water storage tanks made of plastics, A-1 Tank’s galvanized water storage tanks are manufactured to withstand intense heat.

A-1 Tank’s galvanized water storage tanks meet all the requirements for fire suppression anywhere. With our custom-designed 4×4 trucks, we can deliver and install our water storage tanks in rough, backcountry terrain. Our open-top tanks are highly effective when fire suppression from the air is the only access to rough terrain.

The Inland Empire and Southern California have experienced millions of dollars in fire losses. In the 2024 fire season, Malibu’s Franklin Fire burned over 4000 acres, causing thousands to evacuate to safety and qualified as a federal emergency. Regionally the Lake Fire in Santa Barbara County burned 38,664 acres; the Bridge Fire in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties burned over 56,000 acres. The San Bernardino County Line Fire burned close to 39,000 acres.

Galvanized water storage tanks are safe for drinking water, especially when the interiors are coated with a special epoxy coating that is certified by the National Sanitation Foundation.

  • The epoxy coating used by A-1 Tank is certified in accordance with the ANSI/NSF Standard for potable water.
  • Galvanized water storage tanks are useful in rural settings that rely on wells. Groundwater is pumped into water storage tanks where it is available for household use.
  • Galvanized water storage tanks are used by national and state parks for remote wilderness camping and other adventures where fresh drinking water isn’t readily available.
  • Privately operated wilderness experiences often use galvanized water storage tanks to provide water for drinking, cooking, and showers for their guests.

A-1 Tank supplies water storage tanks for private and public wilderness adventures. Do you need a tank in a hard-to-reach spot? Don’t worry, we can deliver it.

Farms and ranches operating over large areas need easily accessible water supplies for livestock, watering crops, and other needs. Pumping water into galvanized water storage tanks distributed strategically around the property helps ensure water is always available.

  • Galvanized water storage tanks can also be used for collecting rainwater and graywater.
  • Collecting and storing rainwater is a cost-effective way to store water, especially in arid regions where it can be used to supplement well water.
  • Collecting graywater, the water from doing laundry, dishes, and taking showers and bathing can be stored in galvanized water storage tanks and reused for landscape watering, some ornamental crops, and chores that don’t require potable water.

A-1 Tank also custom manufactures water troughs to your specifications. Add our galvanized water storage tanks to your livestock watering system as a safeguard for pump failure or to enhance solar-powered watering systems.

We also manufacture heavy gauge steel tanks that can be buried and out of sight.

Water shortages due to the shrinking access to groundwater in the lower Central Valley, the arid environments of the Inland Empire, and growing populations have made the need for water conservation and storage highly important. Combined with the wildfire danger in the San Bernardino Forest and Inland Empire communities such as Hesperia and Apple Valley, water storage tanks are also a critical factor of public safety.

Two major fires threatened Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties, and the Inland Empire within two days in 2024. The Line Fire erupted on Sept 5 and burned 43,978 acres. A few days later the Bridge Fire burned over 56,000 acres before it was controlled. Evacuations were ordered for thousands of residents in the largely rural area.
